Updated Hours
Open 7 Days a Week at 8 am.
I'm offering one-on-one tying lessons here at the shop during the off season.
Rates start at $15 an hour. I will supply the tools and materials you will need, but encourage you to bring your own tools, it is always easier to tie on your own gear. Areas of study (but not limited to these)
Catskill Dries – Basics to advanced, learn proper wing mounting, hackle selection, proper proportions and tricks to making them look pretty.
Soft Hackles – Constructing durable soft hackles and learn proper material selection, tying techniques and my favorite patterns.
Parachutes – Kinda advanced. I don't tie my parachutes like most people. Learn a technique that makes a beautiful and durable fly.
Drakes – Advanced! The hardest of the Catskill dries, but simple once you learn proper material selection and tricks for dealing with these large hackle patterns.
Feather Wing Streamers – We will start with Black Ghost and move up from there. Most important things we will go over is material selection, proportions and little tricks to make your streamers look better and make those wings go on easier.
Winged Wets - Quill wing wets how we do them. We will cover classic patterns and work with a bit of everything you will find in a wet fly pattern married wings, peacock bodies, floss bodies, throats, tags and more.
Big Streamers – They are not as tough to tie as they look, and are very effective for big trout. Contact me for more details. *Please note I do not tie with deer hair.*
